Philip and Jean-Louis will work with you at your easel on issues of composition, color and understanding light and shadow in a painting.
Painting locations include the village of Gordes in the Luberon Mountains, officially listed as One of the Most Beautiful Villages in France. The Van Gogh asylum where Van Gogh checked himself in after the rupture of his relationship with Gauguin and painted 150 paintings during his one year stay. We will be visiting Cezanne's remarkable studio as well.

About Philip Levine
Phil is founder and was first president of the Art Student's League of Denver (1987) and has taught painting workshops in Paris, San Miguel de Allende and New York City. Phil's journey as an artist is marked by the passionate desire to develop and improve along the way. When he found he needed work on composition he visited the Impressionist room of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris and sketched each one of the masterpiece paintings to gain a better understanding of how good compositions are put together. When he wanted develop as a colorist he started by reading 5 books on color theory and spent countless hours doing color charts. Then he experimented by taking color to it's extreme and gradually bringing it back to a comfortable place. When he wanted to put convincing figures in his paintings he spent over a thousand hours painting the figure from life. Then he took that knowledge and worked for years using the camera to perfect putting figures in his paintings.

Well, how exactly do you get to Aix en Provence?
1) You can fly into Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and take the fast train (TGV) from the airport to the TGV station in Aix. Then you can take the #40 bus to the city center and a short cab ride to the hotel. Or you can take a cab from the TGV station to the hotel. You can also fly into Orly and take a connecting flight to Marseille.
2) You can fly into CDG and take a connecting flight to the Marseille Airport. Sounds like the airport in Marseille is a long way from Aix, but it's not. It's only about a 25 minute cab or bus ride..
Let's work together on figuring out your best alternative.
